There is nothing more silent but deadly than a belief system. Conscience is just that.
If consciences were physical things, then we could set everyone in prison free and save almost a trillion dollars a year in State and Federal taxes. Everyone can rely upon the consciences of all law breakers to redeem themselves. (I really like that idea)
I know that the “Conscientious Objector” law exists and that we need to respect it. We need to respect a person’s beliefs.
But we should not allow those belief systems to dictate to our Justice System. If they do, then our nation fails to be the democracy that provides freedom of religion.
That is what I fear HHS and the Heritage Foundation are really doing with protecting people’s consciences, destroying the separation between Church and State.
